To be honest, my school is divided into three main camps - the locals, the main-landers (China Chinese), and the foreigners. In the same vein, school activities are mostly planned accordingly to cater to the specific group of students only, which totally goes against the "inclusive community" as touted by the school, but let's be honest, racial/national inclusion is so not happening in HK.
(& my school is already the most culturally diverse of all local univserities -.-)
Anyways, to celebrate "cultural diversity", the school will invite foreign students to show case their countries of origin to the rest of the student population regularly. This is my third year here, yet it was the first time I ever joined any culture related event. Introducing to you: The Malaysian Night 2016
The Global Lounge is packed to the brim with foreign students, and of course, with many Malaysians as representatives. There were songs, skits, games, a speech from the ambassador of Malaysia in HK, and last but not least, free Malaysian food (yum!!!)
Even if Malaysia is only our neighbour, but the event helped to curb some of the homesickness away. At least the delicious
nasi lemak (rice cooked with cocnut milk, served with egg and meat) and
keropok (deep fried crackers) brought me nearer to home for a bit!
