Not My Grad Trip - Bangkok

I know my winter break home is too short, but I'm not going to miss out flying elsewhere for a change of scenery! This trip was made in celebration of XX's completion of her undergraduate studies. Sighs when will it finally be my turn? Not that I have a firm grad-trip destination in mind.

Since she was busy with wok and school, I was in-charge for doing up the itinerary for most of the trip. With just two not-very-well-travelled girls on this trip, I stuck on the safe side and only visited places which are near to the train stations, which I decided would be a safe mode of transportation for our 4 day trip.

Sightseeing:
Boat tour around the Chao Phraya River.

Chinatown
A short but free Star Wars exhibition outside of Siam Paragon

Inside the cinema lobby of Siam Paragon, waiting for our Star Wars movie to get seated.

Hipster pop-up market - Artbox

Random old school cinema found on a street between Siam station and National Stadium station.

Food:

Hotel breakfast.

First meal was at the spacious food court above Siam's Big C supermarket.
I had the shredded chicken + pig/chicken blood jelly + Thai vegetable noodle soup. With a Thai milk tea and half the mango sticky rice. So good!!!

Boat noodles at Victory Monument. Each bowl only cost 12Baht, which is SGD$0.50?! Really love the flavours, especially since the small portions meant that you can try different mix and match of the soup/ meat/ noodles.

Fried chicken drenched in mayo. No other flavourings cos XX couldn't take the other flavourings.

Thai papaya salad!!!

Coconut ice cream (not the popular store) at Chatuchak weekend market.

BBQ seafood at Chatuchak weekend market.

From left top: Thai fish maw soup with noodles from Victory Monument's shopping mall food court. Japanese stir fried noodles at the airport. Thai red ruby ice dessert from the same Victory Monument food court. Pork and fishball noodle soup at Chatuchak weekend market.

Stir fried salmon with Thai sauce, served with rice, from Mcdonald's (McThai? lol).

Short recap:
Sightseeing - Got kinda scammed by the tuktuk (motorised rickshaw) driver on our way to Chinatown. He brought us to one of the business districts of Chinatown, then told us to look around and guess why the shops were all not opened. Turns out it was a public holiday so he convinced us to take a boat ride around the Chao Phraya River instead. Which I am sure he receives commission to send people there because the boat tour was much more expensive than public boat rides. Nevertheless, it was an interesting and unforgettable experience.

Food - I felt that I didn't try out a lot of food... Perhaps that's the problem with travelling with just one companion; the inability to split multiple portions of food in one sitting.

Massage - First timer here (boyfriend and parents don't count) and while I think massages can be relaxing to a certain extent, I would prefer to stick to getting into a hot tub to loosen those muscles. Seriously I didn't know I was that flexible until I got bent at awkward angles by the masseur. Talk about a high level yoga class!

Shopping - Clothes are cheaper than those found at home. In fact everything seems to be cheaper and most of the times I do not haggle because the wares are already cheap enough. Too bad the clothes are usually made in a smaller size so I would need to request for a bigger size, which cost a bit more. It would be a shopping heaven for those with a smaller frame though!

It was a short trip, but it was enough for us to rewind a bit before facing the real world again. Won't mind to be back though!
