What is the point of being a foreign student if you are not exposed to the local cultures? For the past 2 years, I have been wanting to go down to see the fire dragon as part of mid-autumn festival. However, I guess most locals seem to think that's lame; I think it's lame to go down to SG Chinatown during Chinese New Year too so I guess that is valid. Anyways, this year I was very happy to be able to see fire dragon finally! With a bunch of exchange students from SG some more! So touristy but whatever!
There are actually two fire dragons every year - one in Tai Hang (festival lasts for 3 days) and another one in Pok Fu Lam Village. I personally wanted to see the PFLV dragon because it is smaller in scale, so I thought it maybe easier to catch the dragon. But Tai Hang turned out to be a good choice because it was prepared to be a tourist attraction, so there were lantern displays and food stalls on top of the fire dragon dance!
The fire dragon will pass by the surrounding streets of Tai Hang, but the final performance spot will be in Victoria Park, so do grab a good spot in the Park instead.
The displays in the Park
Jesus is Lord! Amen to that and a great reminder every time we look up from the Park.
Thankful for the many sisters in Christ which I've met in HK. This girl here just got baptised! Too bad I couldn't make it back to see the ceremony but still very happy for her! :)
Rolling my eyes cos some people refuse to take a decent photo for me. (This was the best lol).
The moon is bright but shyly hidden behind the clouds most of the night.
Getting ready!
The photos are not doing the dragon justice! Anyways the fire dragon is actually made of joss sticks protruding out of the hay body structure. Which made the area very smoky after some time, so we left after seeing it made a round or two. As in the long term foreign students left earlier while the exchange students continue to watch the whole ceremony. Heh tourist -(^~^)
I guess the memorable part of the whole show was that we were pressed against the fence, yet we continue watching the show on the floor albeit the fear of a stampede killing us, all to let the old uncle behind us to get a glimpse of the performance on his wheelchair. Because sharing happiness with others is more satisfying than enjoying alone ( ᐛ )و
