Sham Shui Po, one of my favourite and most frequent hangouts outside of school. Known infamously as the poorest district in Hong Kong, it actually holds much historical value beneath all the shambles forming the district.
Mei Ho House is actually a real housing block built in the mid 1950s, after a devastating fire wiped out a majority of the squatters in that area on Christmas Day of the previous year. The British Colonial government then responded to the catastrophe by building the first housing estate ever in Hong Kong to house the displaced residents. The area was redeveloped by now and only Mei Ho House is left to be preserved for cultural heritage purposes.
I had always wanted to visit the Mei Ho House exhibition ever since it was open to public at the end of 2013. However, I was always distracted by the shopping on the main street (oops). Nevertheless, I was glad I made the trip today, as I had the whole exhibition to myself, perhaps because the buzz had died down.
