How many of us have ever been bullied in school?
How many of us became a bully in school?
* I call bullshit if you have never been a perpetrator or victim in cases of school bullying!
(Well unless you're home-schooled or uneducated)
Anyways, I never gave more thought on the topic of school bullying ever since I enrolled into the realms of tertiary education. One being that people are old enough to handle such cases of bullying usually, and also because many people don't even attend school in the first place. Which is why I was surprised by the case of school bullying I was involved in just now. (⊙.⊙)
Rules on English being the medium of instruction aside, I was upset that my fellow classmates were insensitive enough to ask the lecturer if the class debate could be in Cantonese. HELLO??? We're all being trained to become the social workers of the future... Where is the sensitivity and empathy that we've always preached about? Don't give me the excuse that you all forgot that we have classmates who can't understand Cantonese fully... If you all had forgot about this fact, you all wouldn't have asked for permission in the first place! You all disgust me.
Additionally, I was additionally upset that my lecturer gave the green light for the debate to be conducted in Cantonese. Seriously? Sir, are you not sensitive enough too?? (Also, aren't you afraid that someone will report you to the department for not conducting class in English?)
I'll admit that I was one of the school bullies as well, for I had not voiced out my objection in fear that I will get ostracised by my classmates. For that, I am terribly sorry.
