Aren't you a Christian???
Yes, I still am! Wong Tai Sin Temple and the fortune telling process was my presentation topic for my culture heritage module. While the presentation went pretty smoothly and I was able to cope with the QnA session, my tutor then asked if I have ever been to Wong Tai Sin Temple, and my genius answer was: no. (・_・)
Since I have a group presentation for this culture heritage module tomorrow, I decided to come and act tourist just to get myself in the mood. (Bullshit, since tomorrow's topic is on the walled village - Tsang Tai Uk).
The temple is located very conveniently above the train station, which shares the same name. Passing through the throng of tourist and store keepers outside the temple, visitors can easily find their way into the temple court, where the famous fortune telling starts. Grabbing a fortune stick holder from the side table, seekers then kneel in front of the deity to ask for his advice, while shaking the fortune stick holder with both hands. When one stick finally falls off onto the ground, the seeker can also "double confirm" with the deity by tossing the half moon rocks (can be borrowed together with the fortune stick holder). The seeker then memorise the number on the fortune stick before returning everything back to the side table, then look for a fortune teller to explain the fortune based on the number.
Being a Christian, I awkwardly squatted down to avoid unnecessary attention and anyhow shook the holder until a stick came out. I got a fortune which is numbered 75. I have no idea whether this fortune is ++/+/0/-/-- so I have to find a fortune teller to explain everything to me. With so many stores to choose from, I just approach one who seems friendly enough to wave me over. It turned out to be a level -- fortune. ლ(ಠ_ಠ ლ)
I was "seeking" advice for my academic pursues and the lady fortune teller told me that it's going to be tough this month, but things will improve by december. Advice? Work harder. (What a waste of my money to be honest). She then asked whether I would be interested in changing my fortune and gave me a discount (the package is still HKD$500+ after discount). Obviously I thanked her and left!
Since I was "representing" my group to seek a forecast how well we would perform for tomorrow's presentation, this was not a piece of good news to share. Oops.
p.s. We did pretty well in the end lol
