As part of our cultural heritage presentation project, my group came down to Tsang Tai Uk, one of the last walled villages still standing in the urban city of Hong Kong. The village itself is small; slightly disappointing to me if I would admit. The gentleman who spoke to us is a member of the village committee and a descendent of the village. Yet, he seems to lean towards the stance of cultural assimilation into the local Hong Kong (Cantonese) culture. Nothing wrong with that. It is just that.... what is the true meaning of cultural preservation without the soul?
